The Niedere Tauern stretch through the heart of Styria in a long, gentle arc — lower than their neighbours to the west, but no less beautiful for it. This is a range of alpine meadows, glacial lakes, and wide ridges that rewards quiet, patient exploration. The Giglachseen, a pair of high-mountain lakes set beneath the range’s more approachable summits, are among the most serene landscapes in all of central Austria.
