At 4,200 metres on the Chilean Altiplano, we sat out a thunderstorm with forty litres of fuel on the cargo bed. When it stopped, the Bolivian Winter put on something extraordinary.
Arintica and Pukintika are a pair of volcanic peaks rising above the Chilean Altiplano, their twin summits visible for great distances across one of the world’s highest and most arid plateaus. Remote and rarely visited, they sit in a landscape where the silence is near-absolute and the quality of light — harsh, crystalline, uncompromising — is unlike anywhere else on earth.
