Zona reservada Cordillera Huayhuash is a nature reserve sharde by three provinces in central Perú. It is home to the mountains of infamous Cordillera Huayhuash that can be surrounded in a spectatular 12 day circuit. Imagine walking along deep and green andean valleys and having the 6.000m+ peaks covered in ice and snow always in sight. The circuit of Huayhuash includes various passes that scratch the 4.500m mark, incredible mountain lakes and even thermal water pools.
Unfortunately the zone used to be a bit off limits after attacks (even fatal) on tourists in the late 2000s but has been becoming increasingly stable and touristically developed. Still, most visitors go on guided tours – together with a cooking crew and pack animals – some of them even including the ascent to one of the impressive summits. Indivualists travelling to Zona reservada Cordillera Huayhuash are best of gathering all information and supplies in nearby town of Huaraz.
